Nuthurst

The extension to this existing Grade II listed 17th Century cottage was developed from the shell of a former 1893 Wesleyan Methodist Chapel which stood immediately alongside. Finbo were engaged by the Contractor for the works in 2004. The cost to build was in the region of NZ$250,000.

Essentially only the front and side walls of the chapel remain in place and are integrated into the extension, maintaining the attractive stone arches to the front windows and old doorway together with the original key stones dating the property. Brick and block together with a cut oak frame, finished in hand blended reclaimed roof tiles provides an additional master bedroom, dressing room and bathroom, study, sun lounge and boot room. Amongst the hand made bespoke joinery items are the external windows and doors, limewashed bath and sink units, radiator covers and window seats. Alterations to the existing cottage facilitate the extension and the landscaping to the property was completed with traditional Horsham stone. The Client completed internal and external decorations.
